See ya Dad.

Not been out fishing lately as family matters have taken over.
Lost my old man on Saturday(28/11)after a long old illness.
He never quite got my passion for fishing and I can remember him saying:"So,you go out for days and nights on end in all weathers, and if you catch a fish you take a picture, weigh it and put it back?"Me:"Yeah that's about it,bit like you knocking a little white ball around the countryside trying to put it in a little hole ,really."

We never did do that golfing/fishing holiday in Ireland.
Still blowing bubbles Dad.

Swans and mad old biddys.

Down on the Trent again for an overnighter from Tues-Weds,complete and utter blank not even a bleedin Bream.
Did manage a p.b. swan though as one flew straight into my line, eventually afte 5 or 6 anglers getting all enviromental with landing nets and calls to the RSPCA the daft beast untangled itself and then came back to gloat and try to stare me out.
A ver posh old bint took exception to the placement of my bivvy as it disturbed her direct line trajectory on her morning constitutional, she had to walk round it,poor old deluded biddy.Despite immense provocation I managed to supress my socialist instincts and sailor boys vocabulary and took my temper out by casting a four ounce feeder almost into the trees on the far bank.
Hey ho,beats working.

Salad days

Went down for the day again on Monday(2/11)and found a completely different river from last week,it was about 3 feet up and rising, coloured and with a good flow.Couldn't wait to get the rods out.Within an hour I must have had 6lb of weed on the bank, unbelievable amounts of salad.
Stuck at it though and ended up with 6 barbel best being 7 1/2 lb.Absolutely certain I would have had a lot more if the fish could have found the bait
When I packed up there was so much weed on the bank it looked like the tide had gone out at Southend!

Just the 2.

Nice day out yesterday back on the Trent with Cath and the boy, still a very slow clear river but managed a couple of barbel this one was 8.10 and the other one was a 5 ish scrapper. My mate Paul nicked one that was also in the 8 plus bracket.
Packed up about 7 ish and drove home with the pair of 'em fast asleep, thats when you know you had a good day.

Don't know about anyone else,but.........

...I've been scanning the weather forecast for the last week or so waiting for the rain and whooping it up when it does, much to the annoyance of everyone around me.
Aint had much have we?
Despite the conditions,I'm gonna have a bash.
As soon as I've watched my beloved 'ammers get the expected pasting by Le Goon on Sunday I'll be loading up the van(new battery) and setting off at stupid o'clock with Cath, the boy and the mutts for another tilt for old whiskers.

I shall report.

The canal formerly known as the River Trent.

Gawd blimey guv,we need some rain.
It's like fishing in a swimming pool,so clear and still.
Mind you a good angler will always catch fish so I was amazed to winkle out 3!
Got some more time off w*rk next week so I'm getting the kids to do raindances this weekend.

Shear murder.

Had my long golden/grey locks hacked off the other day, feels so weird a bit like losing your leg and trying to wiggle your toes, summink's missing. Not sure that I like my new look yet but the Mrs. seems to like it...................................(insert knackered emoticon).

Rain at last and more due so I'm back down the Trent on Sunday to fish through 'til Monday evening. This time, this time.............................

Oooh she's a clever girl!

My lovely Cath passed her driving test yesterday.
It's been a long old haul for her but she persevered and now she's done it!
Very very proud of her.

No fishing news,I'm workbound for the next week but if we had a few days rain I could definitely feel a cold coming on.............................

'ammers -2 Mourning Micks -3

Good first half but men against boys in the second.Could be a long hard season.
Never mind, one more work shift and I'm off down the Trent for 3(!)nights,with my secret* homemade bait in the bag. It'll be over two weeks since I've been out on the bank so I can't wait,it feels a bit like the season starting all over again and Autumn is my favourite time of year.

*I'll reveal all if I catch on it,if I don't I'll feed it to the cattle!

Very powerful and moving.

1-0 to Wigan?!
Watched on the old moody interweb stream and still can't work out how we managed to lose.
Wigan are a very poor side and we could have had 3,hey ho.
As that nice Mr.Ferguson once said"Football, bloody hell"

Pa in law's birthday today so they're coming over for a bit of a dinner later,a nice bottle of red beckons.............................

5-1.

Great performance but how bad were Croatia?
And so the hype will begin"We can win it!"etc. etc.

We can't....................can we?

Bloody van!

It's in dock again, bleedin' alternator going weird again.Told 'em to "just keep it until you've fixed it".So no fishing for me for a while.
Seriously thinking of selling it,but it's so much part of me and the family that I don't know if I'll be able to.We'll see......................

UPDATE!
It's the water pump,I bloody told 'em it was.
Won't get it back 'til at least Tuesday and what with work I aint gonna be fishing for about a fortnight.Hope I can remember how to tie a hair rig.

Fishing.

This mostly going to be a fishing blog.
Some of you may know that in recent years I've been specialising in barbel fishing although I've fished for them for nearly thirty years now.I had a spell when I purely fished for carp but the call of running water was too strong.Since I settled up north I've enjoyed many happy days and nights on the beautiful stretches up here, mostly on the Swale and the Trent and more recently the Dove.I've also had a few sessions on the Don (it's a lot nearer!)and even had a double out of it.
When I first moved up here I didn't have a clue where to fish, a mate suggested I joined the Barbel Society. So glad I did as it's opened up so much for me and I've met some great blokes along the way.
I don't get as much time on the bank as I'd like(like most of us I s'pose)due to work and my temperemental campervan so I tend to go for at least one night when I get the chance.

Anyway,I'll post a bit more when I know someone's reading!

Dunny

New Blog!

Ok,having a bash at this blogging lark about 5 years behind everyone else but thought i'd have a go.
